This course provides the student with a survey of the concepts, tools and applications in the field of operations management. This concentration provides technically and operationally- oriented professionals with the skills necessary to effectively and efficiently manage large-scale projects and continuously improve related healthcare organizational processes and procedures. The course is designed to provide the student with superior skills in communications, project and operations management in relation to the healthcare system.


This course is an overview of health care personnel, hospitals and other institutions, the federal government, financing and payment mechanisms, and managed care. Using case studies students will learn the origins and milestones of the US healthcare system, to interpret the Affordable Care Act and its impact on the US healthcare system, and evaluate the current operations of the healthcare system and its impact on the general population.


The goal of this course is to provide students with a broad understanding of the challenges facing health executives in selecting and implementing a health information system. The course is also designed to provide context for the growing discussion on electronic medical records, health information exchange and its impact on the internal and external environments shaping the healthcare industry.
