The aim of this course is to provide students the why, where, how and what of public administration. It begins with the foundation of public health including history, legal basis, ethics, healthcare policy and social determinants of health that constitutes the “why” of public administration. The “where” of public administration is then discussed from the federal, state, local, and other associated states and territories. The tools used in public health, the “how” includes epidemiology, community health assessments, evaluation methodology, performance management, and research. The “where” is the largest section consisting of various areas of public health practice including primary care, maternal and child health, environmental, chronic disease prevention, communicable and infectious disease, behavioral health and substance abuse, and more. Finally, The Affordable Care Act, global perspectives and the future of public health practice conclude this very extensive course in public administration.
